Back with a few bentos while I still can take a picture in natural light. I got the idea of berbere meatballs, on
Lunchbox Blues he uses many different meats for his meatballs and such. I had to try some bison to see what it was all about. I picked up a roast from Whole Foods and prepared it in my Le Crueset French oven, almost like you would short ribs. It was very tasty, but very tinyskillethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11921649923651185462noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768156877043143127.post-78032982698239097192012-07-08T14:24:00.001-04:002012-07-08T14:26:11.949-04:00Casual Bento
I usually pack my husband a lunch and sometimes a nice looking bento. Co workers would look at his lunch and wish they had it...said they would eat out next door either if they brought a lunch like that. Well, my husband has opened his own business and told be I didn't have to pack a bento lunch anymore because no one was there to see it...except himself that is.
I do pack his lunch tinyskillethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11921649923651185462noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768156877043143127.post-1648100779919703942012-06-30T13:06:00.001-04:002012-06-30T13:07:35.864-04:00Green Mango Bento
After Debby blew through and left plenty of my mangoes on the ground, I decided to collect them rather than have the squirrels have a feast on these delights. On my food blog The Tiny Skillet I asked if anyone had some ideas what to do with the green mangoes. Here is one of the suggestions green mango salad it came out quite tasty and my whole family loved it.
Not only that, it worked outtinyskillethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11921649923651185462noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768156877043143127.post-19259527833482194032012-03-24T17:10:00.005-04:002012-03-24T17:50:02.873-04:00Fresh BentoWell I can't believe I've made bentos all winter and didn't post one. That's what happens when you get up early before anyone else is up, and make lunches in the dark....no not totally dark I do turn some lights on, but not many. I make my coffee, just one cup at a time with some organic blend that is bold enough for one cup a day. Then I start on the lunches, sometimes my daughter will let me tinyskillethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11921649923651185462noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768156877043143127.post-92046509795277141672011-08-10T17:55:00.005-04:002011-08-10T18:40:02.096-04:00Quick Summer Bento -
Not much bento making this summer
I have been trying to get things done around the house, and on my three blogs. I am using some Lock N Lock containers for this bento I also ordered some lunch box bentos and sent some to my niece for her wedding.
In the two left sections I have some sushi rice with shiitake mushrooms, wasabi, pickled ginger and black sesame seeds to top. Money talks I guess. Anyway it's kinda fun up there because they will still allow horses on the beach there and many will bring their horse on a Sunday afternoon and have fun with the family. I can't believe it's already July, and here I thought I'd be posting all my bento lunches. I have taken some pics, but they seem to be nothing new so they never made it up. It's a busy week at school last week due to the FCAT testing, that's The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, and is administered to students in grades 3 - 11. Although I am not in the classroom anymore and working in the clinic I get a chance to see what nerves and working too hard can do to these grade schoolers. Anyway I really tinyskillethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11921649923651185462noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768156877043143127.post-87852981153217105212011-03-27T14:36:00.006-04:002011-03-27T18:42:05.617-04:00Tiny Hippo Bento I know, I haven't graduated to cutting out a hippo fro cheese or egg sheets yet, but using this container as a guide I might just be able to pull it off. I found this cute little container perfect for dips and dressings, so I filled it with Jason's Deli style fruit dip, you can get the fruit dip recipe here. I also tucked in some veggies, steamed romanesco, carrots, snow peas. Not much new in the bento, but I picked up this cute little pear, so I had to make sure it made it in a bento. I found some silicone scalloped cups in nice bright colors, I used purple for this one. I have to now take some classes (forced to from where I work and don't get paid) after work for 2 hours 3 times a week for eight weeks! I will bring them over to The Tiny Bento here and there, or now and then! This is probably as "cutsie" as Maranda would let me get(for now). I got a set of six flower cookie cutters that range smaller to bigger. The watermelon radish is the smallest. I tried to cut the pickled daikon radish in a small circle for the flower tinyskillethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11921649923651185462noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768156877043143127.post-90062281551559621602010-10-22T18:10:00.009-04:002010-10-22T18:53:22.322-04:00Tropical BentoI know everyone is into Fall and Halloween right now, but since we don't see any color change in Florida I decided to do what is close to home! I have a lot of shells and flamingos and even some palm trees in my decor. Okay I know, but it is coastal living! Next I am working on incorporating shells into a bento, besides shell pasta! I found these adorable glass picks at a Florida inspired store. tinyskillethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11921649923651185462noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768156877043143127.post-56230301287084518922010-10-20T16:46:00.003-04:002010-10-20T17:02:07.779-04:00Old Bento #1I decided to bring over all my old bento lunches that I posted on my food blog The Tiny Skillet. This is one I posted when I was still toying with the idea of making bentos.
